Dr. Bela Kis is an Associate Member in the Diagnostic Imaging & Interventional Radiology Program at Moffitt Cancer Center, an Associate Professor of Oncologic Sciences at the University of South Florida and a Fellow of the Society of Interventional Radiology (FSIR). He is the Co-Section Head of Interventional Radiology responsible for Clinical Operations and Research.

Dr. Kis earned his MD and PhD from the University of Szeged in Hungary. He completed a Radiology Residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School, where he also served as Chief Resident. He then completed an Interventional Radiology Fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School. Dr. Kis’ clinical interests include image-guided tumor therapy including transcatheter chemo- and radio-embolizations, minimally invasive percutaneous tumor ablation (NanoKnife, cryo- and radiofrequency ablation), image-guided biopsies, image-guided urinary and biliary interventions, arterial and venous stenting, uterine fibroid embolization, pelvic congestion syndrome, vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty. Dr. Kis recently introduced thyroid radiofrequency ablation (RFA) at Moffitt Cancer Center, which is one of the very few programs in the US. His research encompasses new techniques in minimally invasive, image-guided tumor therapy with focus on chemoperfusion treatment of mesothelioma, irreversible electroporation (Nanoknife) treatment of unresectable pancreatic cancer, radioembolization treatment for primary and metastatic liver tumors and partial splenic embolization to increase platelet count in patients with thrombocytopenia.
He worked as a thoracic and general surgeon in the north of NY and was appointed as a senior researcher in the Medical Research Institute of the New York Academy of Medical Sciences, with the main clinical focus of oesophageal surgery. He continued in this post until his move to the Seattle in the early 1992.
